Hello there,
My name is Pedro Bala and I am a surf photographer, a traveler, and an artist fascinated by the ocean. The ocean has been my comfort zone and as early in age as I can remember, memories at the beach are the strongest in my mind. As a kid, I got lost in time so often watching the sunset, the surf, the colors, and the pure feeling of freedom by the ocean. As an adult, it hasn't changed, it only got stronger and helped me to shape my decisions towards a healthy living by the ocean.
My appreciation for the ocean became more intense when I bought my first camera. I captured all those special moments at the beach, sunsets, surfing, travels, and road trips. Today, when I look back at those photos I see them as priceless moments that I am happy I captured them; because, a moment in life can not be recreated.
In 2015 I decided to change careers and I left my 9 to 5 job to follow my dream of becoming a surf photographer. Despite the challenges of becoming a professional photographer or the uncertainty of finding jobs, I could always feel that was the life I wanted to live, nothing else made sense, so I followed my gut feeling and today I can proudly say it’s well worth to follow your dream.
In my photography career, I have been dividing my time in three different niches that I love to work on: Surfing, Art, and Lifestyle.
Surf Photography;
That’s where it all started, in surf photography, my love for surfing and photography lead me to leave my day job to start something new. While it sounded like a wild decision, it was the right path to live a healthy life. Since 2015, I have been chasing big wave surfing around the world, traveling to places that I always desired to, exploring and sharing my experiences in each travel in world wide publications. Surf photography is a talent and a blessing that makes me feel alive everyday!
Fine Art;
When I am not traveling the world chasing big waves, I am at the comfort of my studio in San Francisco making high quality fine art prints. I love making prints of my photography, I believe this is my legacy to the world. I’ve been making quality fine art prints since 2015, and in 2022 I decided to launch Bala Art Studio, an online gallery that delivers outstanding quality archival prints for people’s homes or businesses. Lifestyle Photography;
This is a niche in product photography that gives me lots of smiles on my face. It’s a great joy to translate through photography the outcome of a product. When I created Sunset Media my intentions were very simple and direct, I want to help people and businesses to best represent their brand through the power of creative photography.
